On Saturday is when it all began...
We had spent the day at Maple Valley Days walking a lot. When we got home, I tried to take a nap when Brady was napping but was unsuccessful in falling asleep. About 5 o'clock I started to have some contractions. It wasn't too alarming because it was similar to ones I'd been having for weeks now. Then they started to get closer together and a little more intense. All of a sudden I really wanted Carl to mow the lawn and I needed to clean the kitchen and living room. So many times I had deep cleaned in preparation for the arrival of Carson but on this day things were messy and that bothered me.
I knew this was the real deal because I had to sit on a big bouncy ball in between loading the dishes to help me through contractions. All of a sudden they were 1 1/2-3 minutes apart with no warning. My parents came over to watch Brady and Carl drove me to the hospital really fast as I was in agony! Carl wheeled me in down to the birth center at Valley Medical. I was "that girl" who was yelling all the way through the hospital! Quickly five nurses surrounded me to examine me. I was having all back contractions and things were going fast. All I wanted was an epidural and one NOW!
An epidural makes all things so much better! I quickly got to 9cm and my water broke. Things were going really well and I really thought that I would successfully do a VBAC. Once my water had broken then that's when Carson's heart rate started to drop. They had to give me medication to slow down my contractions because it was going too fast. Since Carson was still at a -1, my doctor didn't want to risk the VBAC with his heart rate still so low. So, to the cutting table once again. I was a little disappointed but satisfied I tried.

It actually was a blessing that I ended up with a C-section because once they opened me up they realized that the umbilical cord was wrapped around Carson's neck TWICE! In addition to that is was also tied in a knot (which they say is rare). This explained why his heart rate was dropping with every contraction after my water broke because there was no cushion anymore. The doctors said we'd be in a real emergency if I had started pushing. So thank the Lord for a safe delivery!

Thanks so much to both sets of grandparents who watched Brady the whole time while we were in the hospital! That was much needed and we didn't need to worry at all about him and could focus completely on our new son, CARSON THOMAS!
