Sewing Projects!

So I know that I posted yesterday. But let me tell you I'm rather enjoying this blogging business! Plus, I have lots of projects that I wanted to share with you. Sewing has begun to be one of my favorite hobbies....which means JoAnn's fabric store is often visited. It happens to be my favorite store. Even if I don't have any ideas of what project I'm going to do, it just seems like a place where ideas come to life! Sometimes it can be overwhelming time if you're not shopping for something in mind because there are so many great fabrics!
So here we go to my projects recently....
These are burping cloths that I absolutely love! I first received one from my Aunt Annette when Brady was born and I just really fell in love with it because it's the perfect size and shape. So I copied the pattern!
These are a few of the nursing covers I've made. I love giving them as gifts because they turn out to be so much cheaper than to buy them in the store. Plus, they're custom! My cousin Kelly gave me one with Brady and after using it so much and looking at how it was made, I thought to myself what a great sewing project to learn. With the help of my grandma, I've got this project nailed down! I've probably made about 20 nursing covers now! :)
This picture is of the queen size headboard I made with a 4x6 piece of plywood.  I stapled carpet pad to the board, then covered it with this patterned brown material. I love it. It still needs to be hung.  I want it about a foot higher than it is right now. Secondly, your looking at the pillow covers I've made! They're not complete yet. I plan on putting a large ribbon stripe on the blue spotted one. (There's such a thing as fabric glue! Who knew!) The flowered one is getting three colorful buttons on it, and I still have to figure out what accessory the green one is getting!

Next, we move to my quilt in progress. I'm really excited to finish this. These are truly all remnants...mostly from nursing covers. I did throw in a couple of different textured material which I don't know if that's the norm for quilting. Oh well. So I have all the squares I need and now just need to buy material to piece in between them to break up the craziness and make it a bigger quilt! I'm thinking a light yellow color.

This is our guest room bed. We got the mattress from my parents and put a memory foam on top. Then we found a box spring mattress for free off of craigslist and got the metal frame from my cousins Marshall and Kelly! We had the white duvet cover and my friend Laura gave me a queen sized down comforter! :)  It's all coming together! So I want my guest room to have lots of color. I plan on laying the quilt on the end of the bed for an extra blanket for guests. I'll take more pictures of the whole room when it gets closer!

Here's baby #2's crib! I did a touch up paint job from when Brady used this. I took Brady's old bumper and basically made a casing for it and pulled it threw, using the existing ties on it. It turned out to be very easy! I kind of learn as I go and just go for it! Also sewed fabric right onto his existing bed skirt. Bought a brown sheet and we're good in the crib department!

With the leftover squares from the bumper...I made this baby quilt with a soft brown fleece on the back. These projects are so rewarding and I just love doing them.

Wow, that was my longest post yet! Not sure if you'll read all that but I'm excited to share what I've been doing lately besides taking care of a toddler!

  3. Katie! You are so inspiring! I love that you just get an idea and go with it, and don't bother with directions or doing it the "right way". You just GO FOR IT and it totally turns out cute! great idea on the crib bumpers. I want to do that....too bad I'm kicking myself because I dont' know if I'm having a boy or girl yet. have to wait until after I have the baby...but will I have time then? hahahha!

  5. Yeah I'm so excited you have a blog so I can see pictures of your beautiful family. I wished we lived closer and we could do projects together. And I agree where do you find time to create so many projects, you are one busy lady. And can I also just say I think Gavin & Brady would have a lot of fun together. Gavin is always sleeping with either a basketball or baseball or bat. Too funny.

  6. I know...Gavin and Brady would be best buds! Is Washington still calling your name?
For all those wondering where I find the time...Brady loves going over to my Grandmas to sew. They are like buddies and he just follows gma around the house, which lets me sew! Then I borrowed my friends sewing machine the last 2 weeks and it's amazing what you can get done during nap time and such!
Thanks for all the compliments! I'm really proud of my progress and will keep you updated! :)
